Here we are, coming up to the end of July and as always it is all systems go here at Alchemy Manor. First up is the short list for the British Fantasy Society Awards, which were announced this week. We are tickled pink to see the Alchemy Press nominated in no less than four categories, namely:
- Best Anthology: The Alchemy Press Book of Urban Mythic 2, edited by Jan Edwards and Jenny Barber
- Best Collection: Nick Nightmare Investigates, by Adrian Cole (co-published with Airgedlámh Publications)
- Best Non-Fiction: Touchstones: Essays on the Fantastic, by John Howard
- And Best Independent Press: The Alchemy Press itself
Also, Alchemy editors Jan Edwards and Jenny Barber are pleased so see short-listed for Best Short Story ‘A Change of Heart’ by Gaie Sebold, from their Wicked Women anthology, edited for Fox Spirit.
The other main topic of news is the official launch of Monsters by Paul Kane and Evocations by James Brogden at Edge Lit 4 in Derby on 11 July.
Monsters by Paul Kane has a rather spiffing cover by Clive Barker and introduction by the celebrated Chatterer Cenobite, Nicholas Vince. It is available in paper and digital editions plus, especially for the launch, a VERY limited hardback edition (just 30 copies) that came with a free DVD of the short film The Weeping Woman based on Paul’s story of the same name. There are still a few copies of this collectable book available; if you want a copy you will need to be quick and email us at alchemypress@gmail.com. We hope to put up a PayPal button on the website but technical problems have stumped us.
Evocations by James Brogden is also available in paper and digital editions with cover designed by Peter Coleborn. James took copies to the London Film and Comic Con 2015 to great acclaim!
Next title coming is the long awaited collection of short fiction from Marion Pitman, entitled Music In the Bone and Other Stories. A preview of the cover design was posted on our website and Facebook pages to great approval. Music in the Bone will be launched at FantasyCon 2015 in Nottingham this October. Because Peter is a glutton for punishment he volunteered to edit/produce this year’s Souvenir Book. He has a bumper crop of stories and articles all lined up for your delight.
Then in November we see Music From the Fifth Planet, a collection of Anne Nicholls’ best short stories. This will be launched at Novacon 45, along with a Stan Nicholls collection coming from Newcon Press – Anne and Stan are Guests of Honour at this year’s event.
Also on the cards are new collections from Jessica Amanda Salmonson, Pauline Dungate and Johnny Mains!
SPECIAL OFFERS: we shall be having a sale throughout August on some of our special editions backlist, so keep an eye on our website and Facebook (and Twitter) pages for news on this!
Alchemy’s Peter Coleborn was interviewed at Pornokitsch and was commissioned to write three pieces for Writing Magazine / Writers’ News. We’ll let you know when/if they appear.
The Alchemy Press Book of Urban Mythic 2 received a positive review in Interzone 258, and Monsters was enthusiastically reviewed by Ebookwyrm and the Book Lover’s Boudoir.
That is all for now. Talk to you again soon.
